No more hopping over to Captains Pool

WALKERS will be able to access a Kidderminster lake more easily after improvements were made to barriers along a footpath leading to the beauty spot.

A new gate has been installed across the footpath leading to Captains Pool, in Spennells, to replace a low barrier that people had to step over to access the lake.

The new design features an opening next to the gate which is wide enough for people to walk through.

The improvements were made by Worcestershire County Council, with help from the landowners and a local fishing club.

Dave Jones, of the county council's countryside service, said: "The new access is really making a difference to walkers and fishing enthusiasts in the area. The fishing club members are very pleased with the new situation.

“There was a bar-like barrier which was causing difficulty for people to step over. It was a low rail across the route and if you had a wheelchair or a pram it was impossible to get over it. Hopefully people will get better access on to Captains Pool.”

All very good but how much do these barriers cost? I thought we were out of money! I believe that in these times of austerity any capital expenditure should be evaluated and we, the council tax payers informed of the cost. Only then can we see if our money is being spent wisely.
Can someone post a message telling us how much this gate cost?

In the grand scheme of things, Who Cares !

If Tax Payers pleasure and recreation is improved then it can only be a good thing.
