Wyre Forest bids invited for armed forces links cash

VOLUNTEER groups, charities and schools in Wyre Forest can bid for cash to strengthen ties between the armed forces and the community.

Worcestershire County Council is encouraging applications for Ministry of Defence - MoD - funding, with £30 million allocated nationally to be spent before the end of the 2014/15 financial year on supporting local projects.

The money is available to support local projects which strengthen ties and mutual understanding between members of the armed forces community and the wider communities in which they live.

Individual applications for funding between £100 and £250,000 will be considered by the MoD, whose grant panel meets quarterly.

To be considered for the next round of funding, applications need to be submitted to the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Working Group by no later than 5pm on Friday, February 1.

Conservative councillor Rob Adams, Worcestershire County Council Chairman and chairman of the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Working Group, said: "It is excellent news that Worcestershire communities are already benefitting from a successful application for Ministry of Defence funding.”
