Kidderminster Hospital playing part in Macmillan Cancer Talk Week

Listening ear: Nicky Perks, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support facilitator at Kidderminster Hospital.
PEOPLE whose lives are affected by cancer are being encouraged to share their concerns as a national campaign highlights the issue.
Kidderminster Hospital is playing its part during Macmillan Cancer Talk Week - from next Monday until Sunday, January 27.
The initiative is encouraging people affected by cancer to get talking about it. This year, it is focused on families and how they can be there to support someone with cancer.
Macmillan staff and volunteers at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre can offer a listening ear for cancer fears and worries along with free, confidential advice and support.
Partners, children, colleagues and carers of patients might also find it hard to talk about the impact cancer is having on their lives. Macmillan Cancer Support can help with those conversations.
Nicky Perks, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support facilitator at Kidderminster Hospital, said: “Friends and relatives don’t always realise we are here for them too.
“It is so important that everyone affected by cancer has the opportunity to speak openly about what they’re going through to ensure they get the right support they need.
“People often feel they have to deal with their worries alone when supporting their loved ones through cancer diagnosis and treatment. We reassure friends and relatives that a listening ear and our support are available to everyone, not just patients.”
Worcestershire’s Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service also works in partnership with Relate, which offers free confidential counselling for people affected by cancer.
The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre is on the ground floor of Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre. Call 01562 513273 or drop-in for more information and support.
For more information about Relate speak to a Macmillan advisor at the Centre or call 01905 28051.
