Burglar flees after being confronted by householders

A MAN fled the scene of a burglary after he was confronted by householders returning to their property in Kidderminster.

The thief was challenged on the driveway of the property in Linnet Rise, Spennells, shortly before 9.50pm last night.

He was seen coming from the back of the house and had stolen a video camera and mobile phones after getting in through an unlocked door.

When he was asked what he was doing there he made an excuse, dropped the bag containing his haul, and quickly left in a blue van which was parked a little further down the road.

The man was described as white, in his 20s and was wearing dark clothing including a dark coloured beanie hat. He was driving a dark blue van.

Detective Constable Adrian Bartlett from Kidderminster CID's anti-burglary team said: "Fortunately the burglar dropped the items he had stolen when he realised he had been spotted. He may have tried to get into other properties nearby and I would urge anyone who noticed him or the vehicle he was using to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

"As a force we are continuing to run our anti-burglary initiative Citadel and part of that involves educating people to the need to ensure windows and doors are kept locked to ensure burglars do not have easy pickings.

"We also need people who are suspicious about people or vehicles parked in usual circumstances around their homes to contact us at the time so that we can check it out."

Anyone with information should call Kidderminster CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the incident reference 195-N-150113. Details may also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
