Volunteers needed at Kemp to support bereaved children
7:30am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
VOLUNTEERS are needed at Kemp Hospice to help work with young people who are coping with bereavement.
The hospice needs volunteers to train to become children’s family support workers for its Kemp for Kids service.
The bereavement service was launched eight months ago and has already supported more than 80 children and young people.
The children’s family support workers help Kemp Hospice provide support, either in one-to-one or group sessions, to families with children and young people who are dealing with grief.
The post is suitable to anyone who has general communication skills and has experience or qualifications in dealing with bereavement.
Full training will be provided and volunteers will be able to develop skills, be a part of the friendly and supportive team at Kemp and work flexible hours.
Volunteer children’s family support workers will also have the knowledge that they are helping children and young people cope with their grief.
Kemp Hospice is also looking for volunteer adult family support workers to help support adults, families and patients in the same way.
Kemp aims to raise £30,000 in 30 weeks through its Children’s Appeal to help deliver a range of programmes around the district to support bereaved children.
The appeal is being run in association with The Shuttle, which will feature appeal updates every week in a bid to help the hospice reach its target as quickly as possible.
If you think you could spare a few hours a week, call Natalie Norgrove, volunteer co-ordinator, on 01562 75600 or email natalien@kemphospice.org.uk
