Sport Makers: Daniel Caines.
A GOLD medal-winning 400 metre runner will be speaking at a Sport Makers workshop in Stourport.
Daniel Caines, who won gold at the World Indoor Championships in 2001, has pledged his support to the Sports Partnership programme in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The workshop is being held tomorrow at Stourport High School which will aim to encourage people to get involved with sport.
Mr Caines will be speaking about his experiences including how he achieved his time of 45.61 seconds in 2001, which was the second fastest in the world.
Stephen Brewster, director of the partnership, said: “Sport doesn’t just happen, it takes commitment and hard work. This initiative will offer people all the skills and knowledge they need to bring sport into their local communities.
“You don’t have to be an Olympic hopeful to be a sporting hero and that is what Sport Makers is all about, inspiring people to take part in sport and make it happen.”
Sport Makers is a Lottery-funded Sport England initiative and is aimed at anyone aged 16 and over.
The programme encourages people to sign up as a Sport Maker online, attend a workshop and record their volunteering hours on the website.
