STAFF at a Kidderminster store will be doing something funny for money in a bid to raise more than £3,000 for Comic Relief.

TK Maxx employees at the Weavers Wharf store will be holding a variety of events over the next few weeks to raise funds to help people in poverty.

On Saturday, staff will be hosting an open mic day with eight acts singing at the front of the store from noon until 3pm.

Performers include Marches Court with Sarah Wills, as seen on The X Factor, Kidderminster College’s Lauren Wright and DJ Alex McLoughlin.

At 3pm, nine TK Maxx employees will be getting their hair dyed at Barbarella hairdressers in return for sponsorship.

On Tuesday, from 1pm to 2.30pm, a magician will be performing magic tricks in store as well as selling balloon animals.

Next Friday, the team will be joined by the animal man from 11am to 3pm, where customers will see birds, lizards and snakes on display.

As well as the fundraising events, TK Maxx is selling the official Red Nose Day merchandise including t-shirts designed by Stella McCartney.

On Friday, March 1, the team will be taking part in a TK Maxx Comic Relief T-shirt relay where staff are transporting a t-shirt between stores in the district. Shrewsbury staff will bring the relay into Kidderminster, who will then take the t-shirt to Redditch.

Friday, March 15 is Red Nose Day and assistant store manager Wayne Higgs will be having a tattoo in store at 1pm in return for sponsorship money.

Kam Bhachu, Tk Maxx Comic Relief store champion, said: “Our Kidderminster store is hoping to raise more than £3,000 for Comic Relief. We are all supporting the fundraising events and are very proud to be part of this amazing cause.”
