MORE than £1,000 was raised for people suffering with mental illness during Kidderminster Mayor John Aston’s annual ball.

Mr Aston’s charity event was held at Kidderminster Town Hall, where more than 100 people enjoyed a champagne reception and three-course meal.

It was held to raise cash for his mayoral charity Wyre Forest Mind, which aims to improve the mental health of people living in the area. A total of £1,645 was collected for the cause.

Mr Aston said: “It was a success. We had the town hall decorated to perfection. It was really lovely. It went off very, very well. Everybody had a superb evening.”

A lot more needs to be done to highlight the issues of mental health in Kidderminster and surrounding areas and the appaling lack of help and support for sufferers and their family/carers.
