WORKS to improve Bewdley town centre are well underway.

Worcestershire County Council is carrying out bridge repairs and renewing and enhancing footways and kerbs in Load Street as part of the Worcestershire Local Transport Plan.

The footway and kerb improvements were delayed a week due to snow and low temperatures in January but works on the north side of Load Street - between the Angel Pub and George Hotel - have already been completed.

Renewal of the south side has started. Slabs used for the works match paving already in place on Severnside.

Street lighting in Load Street has also been upgraded and the current work, due to be completed by Easter, is expected to enhance the town.

Conservative Simon Geraghty, the county council's cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: "It's excellent news that the public realm works in Bewdley are well underway and completion is in sight.

“I'm sure that residents will be looking forward to seeing the finished results. We'd like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while these improvements are being carried out."
