Carnival fun boosts appeal

KIDDERMINSTER Carnival has become the first major voluntary organisation to pledge its support to the new Shuttle-backed scanner appeal.

Organisers have singled out Kidderminster Hospital’s League ofFriends’ £125,000 appeal as the beneficiary of this year’s carnival, planned for June.

Thehospitalis upgrading its CT(computedtomography) scanner and the appeal hopes to raise £65,000 for computer software to enable more accurate diagnosis and another £60,000 to cover the cost of building work needed to replace the current scanner.

The carnivalhas raised £69,250 forvarious charities andgoodcauses since the current committee tookover the running ofthe annual event in1992.

Lastyear’sdonations included£2,000 to the 1st KidderminsterBoys’Brigade Minibus Appeal.

Other organisations tohave benefited over the years include Kemp Hospice,the Citizens AdviceBureau, the GirlGuides’ Association, WyreForestDial-a-Ride,the Talking Newspaper and the Ray Mercer Sporting Foundation.

The carnival has also supported previous Shuttle backed appeals for replacement equipment for theKidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club and the Rhydd Covert Scout Centre, after both were hit by arson attacks.

Carnival chairman Colin Hill said: “This is a very large appeal and needs as many organisations and individuals onboard as possible to be successful.

“A state-of-the-art scanning facility will benefit so many people across Kidderminster and Wyre Forest. We had no hesitation in backing the appeal and are delighted to be leading the way.

“We are certain the appeal will touch the hearts of many and galvanise our community to raise themoneyneededto reachthe target.”

KidderminsterCarnival will be held at Brinton Park on Saturday,June 22.
