Kemp for kids appeal reaches two-thirds of target

THE Kemp for Kids appeal has raised nearly two-thirds of its £30,000 target.

The Children’s Appeal, in association with The Shuttle, has collected £19,469.11 to support bereaved children and their families in Wyre Forest and the surrounding areas.

The appeal hopes to raise £30,000 in 30 weeks and has only £10,000 to go in the remaining 15 weeks.

Since the appeal launched in October, nearly 100 children and young people have been supported through memory days, one to one support sessions and group sessions.

Kemp Hospice is currently organising its first residential weekend in April, where 24 children and young people, along with their parents and carers, can build confidence and self-esteem.

The weekend will also provide therapeutic activities to give the children and young people the space and time they need to deal with their grief, away from the daily pressures of home life.

Jackie Turner, children’s and family worker at Kemp, said: “Even for adults, the grief that follows bereavement can be painful and confusing.

“And for many young people, dealing with grief is even more difficult as they find it hard to share their thoughts and feelings. This can lead to mood swings, unsettled behaviour and withdrawal.

“Kemp for Kids helps to reduce these problems by making the grieving process less frightening and easier to bear.”
