Girl, 6, dies after falling into Kidderminster canal

A SIX-year-old girl has died after she fell into a canal in Kidderminster.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Springfield Park just before 6.20pm yesterday following reports that three children had fallen into the canal.

It appears two of the children managed to get themselves out of the water but the third was in the water for some time before being rescued.

The three children were all taken to hospital but the six-year-old girl was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The two other children are expected to make a full recovery.

More to follow on this story.

I live opposite Waterside Grange Park. Many times I have seen young children climbing the trees, which overhang the canal. A lot of time and money was invested into Park but it was never finished. The plans were to fence the edge of the field on the canal side and put foot paths in. Why has this not been done? Such a tragedy, my thoughts are with the family.
