KIND-hearted members of Stourport Carnival Society have donated £2,000 to the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends’ Scanner Appeal.
The society generously pledged its support to the Shuttle-backed cause by donating cash raised from last year’s event.
Kidderminster Hospital is upgrading its CT(computed tomography) scanner and the appeal hopes to raise £65,000 for computer software to enable more accurate diagnosis and another £60,000 to cover the cost of building work.
Pete Roberts, chairman of Stourport Carnival Society, said committee members voted unanimously to support the appeal.
“We’re putting the money towards what we think is a good cause,” he said.
“I think the appeal is a very good thing for Wyre Forest. If all the local organisations do the same then it won’t take long to raise the money.”
He added: “Stourport residents have to use Kidderminster Hospital so it will benefit Stourport people and the whole of Wyre Forest.”
He added he also hoped to donate cash to the appeal from this year’s carnival in September.
Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, said he was grateful to the society for the donation.
He added: “It’s so encouraging that the Stourport Carnival Society has made this donation. I know how hard it is to raise money from carnivals and they have to work all year round. It shows the support they have for the community.”
He added the League of Friends welcomed all donations, no matter how small.
“We had a gentleman come into the shop and donate £5 and he said ‘I know it’s not a lot of money but I want to contribute’,” Mr Picken said. “It’s people like that who make such a difference. It isn’t just £5 – it’s another donation that adds to the overall appeal target.”
He said the group now had gift aid sponsorship forms for people holding events, which are available to pick up from The Shuttle offices in Blackwell Street, Kidderminster.
People can also make a donation to the appeal by contacting the League of Friends on 01562 67653.
Alternatively cheques, made payable to Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends, can be sent to Cadisha Brown, The Shuttle, 6 Towers Buildings, Blackwell Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2DY.
