ROADWORKS in Bewdley are expected to be completed tomorrow – a week ahead of schedule.

The news will delight the town’s traders, who have reported a drop in trade since the revamp started last month.

Worcestershire County Council has been carrying out bridge repairs and enhancing footways and kerbs in Load Street as part of the Worcestershire Local Transport Plan.

The footway and kerb improvements were delayed by a week due to snow and low temperatures in January.

It was scheduled to be completed on Good Friday but workers have managed to finish early.

It comes in time for Easter events in the town, such as the town’s first Passion Play and the rearranged annual duck race on the River Severn.

Phil Brook, of The Deli@Bewdley, said he was “pleased” the work was ahead of schedule.

“Everyone should be dancing in the street now with our wonderful new pavement,”

he said. “I’m pleased that it’s all done and I’m delighted the council have assured me they won’t be coming back in the foreseeable future.”
