BORED youngsters will soon have somewhere to go and hang out with their pals when a youth cafe opens in Kidderminster.

Business owner Anne Barker is setting up the venture at the former Burtons and Evans’ store to try and get young people off the streets.

There will be computers, gaming machines such as Wii and Xbox, a pooltable and free wifi at the Worcester Street cafe, which will also be open to the general public.

The retro-style youth cafe, which is set to open on September 1, will run from 7am until 9pm to give 11 to 18-year-olds somewhere to go before and after school.

Mrs Barker, who owns holistic store Simply Charming, in Blackwell Street, said: “It’s going to be a chilled-out place for kids and during the day it’s going to be opento the community.

“It will be open at 7am for the childrentohave somewhere togo and chill out before they go to school.

“They will go to school at about 8.45am and from then onwards it will be open to the general public butthere’s nothing stopping anyone coming in for a cup of coffee withthekids inthemorning.”

She saidshe wanted to set up the youth cafe after realising there were thousands of youngsters in the town withnowhere to go.

“Kids would come into the shop and say there’s nothing for them to do,” said Mrs Barker.

“There are between 9,000 and 10,000 children aged between 11 and 18 in this area so they’ve got to go somewhere. The youth cafe is just a place for them to hang out and be with their friends.”

Mrs Barker is looking for people interested in being a part of the cafe’s youth committee, which she is hoping to form in the next two weeks. Anyone interested should contact Mrs Barker on 07584 434087.
