FAMILIES flocked to Wolverley Carnival and fete to take advantage of last weekend’s scorching heat.

The carnival began with a procession through Wolverley led by marching band The West Midlands Crystalettes with carnival queen Mollie Bryant-Jones, 13, princess Elisha Brown, 12, and rosebud Evangeline Holden, eight, taking part in the parade in a decorated Land Rover.

The Wyre Forest Navy Training Corps TS Ocean, Minis, classics cars, scooters, Pedmore Panthers cheer leaders, stilt-walker Andrew Healey and the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) travelled through Wolverley on their way to the Memorial Hall field.

Judges Peter Picken and Val Pearson chose The Queens Head and Spokes float as their senior winners and Wolverley Sebright Primary School as the junior.

The fete was opened by the carnival queen’s royal court who were introduced by Mike Wyer of BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Carnival committee chairman Charles Sherrey said: “There were lots of activities on the Memorial Hall field including a coconut shy, archery, merry go round, bouncy castle, mini golf and lots more.

“The Wolverley stocks were brought out and the courageous Mark Pollard, deputy head of Wolverley CE Secondary School, became a very popular target.”

The West Midlands Crystalettes gave a demonstration of one of their competition routines followed by a morris dancing display by Wolverley Sebright Primary School.

The crowds were then entertained by Eclipse Martial Arts giving a kick boxing display, Pedmore Panthers Cheer Leaders and The Expressions School of Dance.

In between the acts, circus skills professional Andrew Healey performed in the sunshine and folk and blue grass music was played during the afternoon by Them Good Ole Boys.
