A POST office in Kidderminster is set to have longer opening hours under plans to modernise the facility for customers.

The Burcher Green premises will be spruced up to create a more modern environment as part of proposals to modernise the network and extend the opening hours for customers.

The post office will have three serving positions, including a mixture of two screened counter positions with a post office serving point at the retail counter – a new concept for delivering services.

It will be closed from Monday, August 19 until 1pm on Tuesday, August 27 to allow the refurbishment work to be carried out. The retail store will stay open while the changes are made.

People can use alternative post offices, in Warbler Place, Spennells and the Horesfair, while the work is taking place.

Will Russell, Post Office regional network manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

He added: “The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the post office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Following the changes Post Office products and services will be available from Monday to Saturday from 5.30am until 10pm and on Sundays between 7am and 10pm – an increase of 68 hours a week, which will see the branch open seven days a week.
