Events firm bids to be decorated
A KIDDERMINSTER entrepreneur is hoping for his own big day after his events firm reached the finals of a wedding contest.
Lloyd Wothers, who owns event dressing business Venue Dress, is in the running to win the English Wedding Awards 2013, which recognises wedding suppliers from around the country.
The firm, which Mr Wothers set up more than eight years ago following a career in marketing, is one of two finalists vying for the award in the event decorator of the year category for the West Midlands region.
Judging is currently under way following votes received from the public nominating their favourite business.
Mr Wothers expanded the business, now based in Brierley Hill, from just balloon decorations to providing essentials from chair covers to hand-crafted stationery.
He said the news he had reached the finals came as a shock, as he had no idea he had been entered.
“I think that I was nominated by brides and other customers,” he said. “It’s as much of a surprise to me that I have reached the finals. I didn’t know anything about it until the organisers contacted me.”
He added winning the award would be a reward “for years of hard work developing a specialist local business” and put his success down to treating every wedding and event as if it were his own.
“I think it’s great to be in the finals, “ said Mr Wothers. “I think it’s quite nice to see our hard work being recognised, particularly in today’s economic climate. Venue dressing is a real saturated market, especially with hobbyist venue dressers, so it’s really nice to be in the finals.
“Venue Dress has exceptionally high standards and our remit has always been to offer only the genuine best.”
Mr Wothers, whose client list includes ITV, Toyota and Michelin, will find out if he has won his category during a special ceremony in Manchester, on Monday, August 26.
