Firefighters simulate rescue from Bewdley 'cliff'
FIREFIGHTERS have simulated a dramatic rescue of “rock climbers who had fallen into the River Severn” near Bewdley.
Crews from Kidderminster took part in the exercise between 10am and 1pm yesterday at Blackstone Rock - a cliff-like sandstone at the east side of the river just outside the town.
Special rope rescue teams from Droitwich and Malvern joined two fire engines from Kidderminster at the scene to help rescue two climbers who had "dropped off the steep rock".
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “It went really well. At this time of year the rock attracts more climbers and we managed to refresh ourselves on access and techniques.”
