Get set for the Shuttle Races
8:00am Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
ARE you looking to get back into shape after an endless round of parties and barbecues this summer?
Then the Shuttle Races are just the thing for you – and while you are shedding a few pounds, you can also help to raise a few pounds for a good cause.
And this year we’re hoping there will be a party atmosphere on Sunday, September 22 as we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the races which have raised thousands of pounds for charity.
The Shuttle has again teamed up with Kidderminster & Stourport Athletic Club who are hosting the event which starts and finishes at the all-weather track at Kingsway, Stourport.
Senior endurance coach Richard Warder said: “Who would have thought it – the Shuttle Races are still going strong after clocking up 10 years.
“So much has happened in that time. We had a major fire which destroyed our clubhouse, but we have seen a new one built to replace it, along with a new cycle track and fantastic netball dome.
“All these facilities have enhanced the work of the sports club and we have seen a steady increase in junior members which has helped the club thrive.
“And we have also seen a growth in the number adults representing us in competitions, encouraged by the interest created by last year’s London Olympics.”
He added: “We would like as many people as possible to come along on September 22 and join in with the races’ 10th birthday celebrations.
“It’s very much a community event and we rely heavily on the support of our local community. The more people who take part, the more profit we make and the more money we can give to Kemp Hospice which does such fine work in Wyre Forest.”
The main event is a 10k race starting at 11am but if you want to take it a little bit easier, a 4k fun run – around the all-weather track – begins 15 minutes earlier.
All finishers will receive a medal to mark the occasion and Kidderminster & Stourport AC are also keen to see more teams taking part.
So if your sports club, pub or work colleagues want to get in on the action, organise them into teams of four for the day.
- An entry form will appear in tomorrow's print edition of The Shuttle, or can be obtained by writing to the Race Secretary at 2 Rowanberry Close, Stourport DY13 8TW. Closing date for postal entries is September 13.
