Prolific Stourport burglar jailed
12:58pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
A “PROLIFIC” Stourport burglar has been jailed for six weeks for handling stolen goods.
Two mountain bikes and a remote controlled car were found in a bedroom at Tommy Smith’s home, the day after they were stolen during a series of shed and garage break-ins in Beach Road and Princess Way, on the Walshes estate.
Smith, 33, of Linden Avenue, Walshes, Stourport, admitted handling stolen goods and was jailed by Kidderminster magistrates on Monday, August 19.
The mountain bikes were worth £800 in total and the remote controlled car worth £50.
Smith had also faced two charges of receiving stolen goods, which were dismissed after the prosecution offered no evidence. Two charges of failing to surrender to bail were withdrawn.
PC Dave Louden of West Mercia Police said: “Tommy Smith is a prolific criminal with a long record of offences, including burglary.
“While he denied being involved in the burglaries, he admitted suspecting the bikes and remote controlled car may have been stolen.
“Burglary is a distressing offence for victims and without a market for stolen items, there would be very few crimes of this nature.”
