National first for West Mercia senior officer
A SENIOR officer for West Mercia and Warwickshire police forces has become the first serving officer on a development programme to achieve the rank of superintendent.
Alex Franklin-Smith joined the national high potential development scheme (HPDS) as a sergeant four years ago and although there are a number of temporary superintendents he is the first to achieve a substantive role following a highly competitive promotion process.
The scheme, run by the National College of Policing, identifies high calibre police constables and sergeants and supports their development into senior leadership roles.
Det Supt Franklin-Smith said: “I am very grateful for the opportunity to take part in the revised scheme and the experienced I have gained from it has been invaluable.”
