THE former Mayor and Mayoress of Kidderminster have donated £12,000 raised during their year in office to Wyre Forest Mind.
Independent councillor John Aston and Madeline Craddock handed over the money to the mental health charity at Kidderminster Town Hall last week.
Mr Aston said: “I am very happy that we were so successful in our fund-raising efforts on behalf of Wyre Forest Mind. Mental health issues affect most people in some way.
“There is a real need to provide support for the people of Wyre Forest to supplement the official NHS and local authority provision.”
Wyre Forest Mind is currently running 10 week anxiety management courses as well as a well-being course. The branch has also appointed a local co-ordinator who is starting work this month.
Chairman of the Wyre Forest Mind trustees Stephen Clark, of Kidderminster, said: “We are really grateful for John and his mayoress Madeline Craddock for all their hard work.
“This sum of money is a tremendous achievement and we shall be using it to maintain and expand our work in the borough.
“Mental health issues directly affect at least 25 per cent of the population and can cause great distress to sufferers and their families and friends.”
Wyre Forest Mind is also in discussion with the Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning Group to develop a well-being assessment and planning service to work with GP practices for people who have long-term mental health conditions.
