Wyre Forest MP acts over fuel prices in district
9:00am Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
WYRE Forest’s MP has contacted district retailers to express his disappointment at high fuel prices.
Conservative Mark Garnier said prices in Wyre Forest were again higher than in surrounding areas in the West Midlands, despite his campaign last year which saw the premium residents paid falling.
Following Mr Garnier’s campaign, which included a meeting with chiefs at supermarket Tesco, he said retailers reacted positively and the premium on fuel prices in Wyre Forest fell to around 1p.
That was not maintained, however, and recent comparisons show that, again, Wyre Forest residents were paying up to 5p more per litre than elsewhere in the West Midlands.
Mr Garnier said: “It is disgraceful that residents of Wyre Forest are again being penalised at the pumps, when clearly it is possible for retailers to reduce the premium that local residents pay.
“I have, therefore, once again contacted Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Rontec and ExxonMobil to highlight my disappointment in the inequity of charging Wyre Forest consumers extortionate prices and to question why they were unable to maintain the lower premium once the pressure was taken off.”
