A KIDDERMINSTER man is running seven half marathons in seven countries in seven days for Kemp Hospice.
Simon Birks, 37, has so far raised £1,500 for the Wyre Forest-based hospice by taking part in the ultimate challenge with his trusty companion, 18-month-old Labrador Chloe.
The duo kicked off the first half marathon on Saturday at 7am at Fitness 24/7, in Stourport, before running to Woverley and back again.
About a dozen of Mr Birks’ friends ran the first mile in support of his challenge wherever they were in the world. He had supporters from France, the USA, Australia and Bristol joining him at 7am regardless of their own time zones.
Mr Birks then drove down to Dover before travelling to Dunkirk to run the French half marathon on Sunday afternoon.
He then ran 13 miles in Charlevoix in Belgium on Monday, Luxemburg on Tuesday, the Black Forest in Germany yesterday and was due to run in Austria today.
He will finish by running 22 miles around Lake Garda in Italy tomorrow.
Mr Birks has been running 13 miles in under two hours after training for the last eight months.
He said: “My wife Claire and I bought Kemp’s previous house and I have always competed in big events every two years to support Kemp.
“It is also our wedding anniversary and we are spending it in Italy, and because we planned to drive there one of my friends said I should complete all the half marathons down to Italy and it just went from there.”
After his challenge the couple will have three weeks off to enjoy their wedding anniversary in Italy.
