£72,000 raised for Bewdley hall's appeal
6:30am Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
AN appeal to help buy equipment for Bewdley’s newly refurbished St George’s Hall has raised £72,000.
The hall has been spruced up in an £800,000 project to create a multipurpose hub for the town and it has already been used to host two big events – the Bewdley Horticultural Society show and the town’s Beer Festival – since it reopened last month.
The cash raised from the appeal has gone towards getting the hall’s cafe area up and running, equipping the new meeting rooms, and for chairs and blinds for the main hall.
Money is still needed, however, for sound, lighting and cinema equipment and to provide a community kitchen for use by people hiring the hall.
John Iles, chairman of SGH Venue Management, which runs the hall, said: “People seem delighted with the renovation work that has taken place.”
Construction work started on the project last year and once fully complete the hall will also include a foyer with meeting and exhibition space and a cafe bar.
There will also be new activity spaces for meetings and parties.
A number of office-type spaces in the hall are also available to community groups, charities and local small businesses for longer term let.
Mr Iles added: “The hall has been designed as a multi-purpose community hub and the business plan allows for a small number of longer term lets to provide a steady stream of income to support the hall’s other activities.”
People interested in hiring the spaces should contact SGH Venue Management by Monday, October 14 at Snuff Mill Warehouse, Park Lane, Bewdley DY12 2EL or by calling on 01299 405516.
They can also email email@example.com.
