8:00am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
THE director of music at Birmingham Cathedral will be performing at this season’s second lunchtime recital organised by the Hill Organ Promotion Society.
Marcus Huxley will be performing at Kidderminster Town Hall next Thursday.
Marcus read modern languages at Oxford University which gave him the opportunity to spend a year in Paris where he had organ lessons with Marie-Claire Alain.
He was the youngest finalist in the 1971 St Albans International Organ competition.
On his return to Oxford, he was elected organ scholar of Worcester College, where he directed the chapel choir and gained a degree in music.
In 1974, he became assistant organist of Ripon Cathedral and lectured at the University College of Ripon and York St John.
He then returned to St Albans winning the top two prizes and was appointed to director of music at Birmingham Cathedral.
He has made numerous broadcasts, recordings and television appearances with the cathedral choir as well as leading tours to France, Germany and the Netherlands.
He has made a solo organ CD and is increasingly in demand as a composer.
The recital starts at 1.10pm.
