Wyre Forest Catholic community celebrates anniversaries
7:50am Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
THE Catholic community in Bewdley and Stourport raised £2,000 for good causes during a week of celebrations to mark three anniversaries.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Holy Family Church in Bewdley, the 40th anniversary of St Wulstan and St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Stourport and the 35th anniversary of St Wulstan’s Primary School also in Stourport.
The parish raised the money by opening its doors to the public with an exhibition at the Holy Family Church and a flower festival and mass at St Wulstan’s.
Parish secretary Mark Hall said: “We were all very pleased with how the celebrations went. The church was full for the final mass and many people attended our barbecue afterwards.
“We’ve raised £2,000 for good causes and the church funds. Our chosen charity is the Sunny Trust in India, which is run by an Indian priest and supports people in poverty who live with practically nothing. He helps them set up health centres and community services.”
Some of the money will also be used to help with renovation work at the Holy Family Church.
Mr Hall added: “One of the highlights for the parishioners was a report given by two 18 years olds who had been out to Rio de Janeiro for the World Youth Day where there was four million people on Copacabana beach.
“We sponsored them to go and they gave an excellent presentation.”
