Academy at Kidderminster principal to step down
3:00pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
THE principal of The Academy at Kidderminster is to step down at the end of the academic year.
Dame Christine Braddock is retiring from her role as principal and chief executive of Birmingham Metropolitan College, which runs The Academy at Kidderminster and eight other campuses across the Midlands.
The announcement comes soon after the college overturned a ban on religious veils after a number of Muslim students complained about the eight-year-old policy.
The college has also announced that former KPMG regional boss Steve Hollis will take over as the new chairman of the college, replacing Vij Randeniya.
Mr Hollis said: “The board has had a phased approach to succession planning, with my own appointment phase one is complete and now we will begin the search for a successor to Christine.
“She will continue in her role until the end of the academic year, to enable her to support her successor so a smooth, orderly transition can take place.”
Dame Christine has been principal of Birmingham Metropolitan College since 1998.
She was made a Dame in this year's New Year's Honours and has more 30 years experience of leading further education colleges.
