Kidderminster Catholic parish opening doors for visitors
6:30am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
THE Roman Catholic parish of St Ambrose will be opening the doors for visitors at its two churches in Kidderminster.
The community will be welcome to visit St Ambrose Church, in Birmingham Road, and at Our Lady and St Pius X Church at Habberley on Sunday.
The church and its congregation has been active in Kidderminster for more 150 years.
There will be displays at both churches to show visitors the activities that take place in the parish.
These include working with St Ambrose Primary School and Hagley High School, supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Kidderminster Food Bank and Street Pastors initiative and supporting aid programmes in Africa.
There will also volunteers available to answer questions, show visitors around and discuss historical features.
Co-ordinator of the open day Christopher Harvey said: “Many people know us perhaps because of our schools but are unaware of other aspects of our parish life and this is an opportunity to come and meet us, see the displays and have a chat about what is going on.
“We would be delighted if visitors wished to join us for Mass, it is not necessary to be a member of the Catholic church.
“We are very proud of our churches and while St Ambrose in particular has some beautiful features we recognise that it does not have the long history of some churches.
“Our heritage we feel is much more in our faith and our community and our open day is an opportunity to share that heritage with all our neighbours in Kidderminster.”
Sunday morning Mass at St Ambrose is at 9:30am and the open day exhibition will run until 4pm.
Our Lady’s in Habberley will be open from 2pm until after Mass which will begin at 5pm.
