Wyre Forest residents urged to make sure they can vote
2:10pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
WYRE Forest residents are being urged to ensure they have the right to vote in next year’s elections.
From next Wednesday forms to register to vote will be delivered to all 45,000 residential letterboxes within the district.
The form contains the current details of the people who are listed on the register of electors for that property.
Residents are required to check the details. If the information is correct and there are no changes to the details, residents can respond by using the internet, freephone or text service. Security codes are provided on the form to access the three different methods. Residents are not required to return the form by post if they successfully use one of the methods.
If changes are needed to the information, residents should read the form carefully, complete all the sections and return the form by post in the envelope provided.
Residents are required by law to respond and register every year. Anyone who does not respond can face the risk of being fined up to £1,000.
Credit reference agencies also use information from the register of electors to update their records. That means it can be harder to obtain credit if people are not on the electoral register.
Ian Miller, electoral registration officer, said: “If you do not need to make any changes to your form, please let us know by one of the modern methods of internet, freephone or text.
“Last year 42 per cent of households responded by one of these methods. You have a choice about how to reply and it reduces postage costs for the council.
He added: “Please reply as soon as possible. This will also help us reduce costs. If we have to send you a reminder or make a visit to your home to collect the form, it will cost the council more money.”
The European parliamentary, district and parish council elections are due to take place on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
Anyone needing help to complete the form or who does not receive a form by Thursday, October 10, should contact 01562 732928 or email email@example.com.
