TWO hundred and fourteen karate students attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the most people performing Kata together in Stourport.
Young Gloves Karate attempted the record on Sunday and now need to submit their evidence to the Guinness World Record team.
Kata is a choreographed pattern of Karate movements and the current record is held in Japan by 82 people.
Wendy Watkins, whose children and husband are members of Young Gloves, said: “It was amazing. The rain held off and we were very grateful to be supported by headteachers, teachers and all the parents who helped organise the day as well as Hire It who provided equipment free of charge to help us.”
The group have also been raising money for the Worcestershire Deaf Children's Society as a young member of Young Gloves has hearing difficulties. Donations on the day totalled £340.
Worcestershire Deaf Children’s Society is a group for the families of deaf and hard of hearing children in the county. They provide activities for children ages two to 16.
Young Gloves Karate’s next competition is on December 1 where they will continue their fundraising efforts.
They are looking for sponsorship for trophies from local businesses and are appealing for raffle prizes.
