Stourport charity boss to take on trek to Dracula's Castle

A STOURPORT charity’s chief executive will be getting her teeth into a challenging six-day trek across Romanian mountains to Dracula’s Castle.
Andrea Maddocks will be trekking across the Carpathian Mountains in 2015 to raise funds for Mentor Link, a charity that mentors young people who may be facing difficulties in their lives.
The trek is regarded as one of the toughest European charity challenges and could include encounters with bears or wolves.
Mrs Maddocks has set herself a fundraising target of £10,000 which will be raised over the next year.
This will be used by the charity to develop new services for young people in Kidderminster, Stourport and the surrounding area.
Mrs Maddocks said: “George Brown, our new head of fundraising, has persuaded me to take on this challenge and to lead our new fundraising campaign.
“I am aiming to raise £10,000 over the next year or so and I will be organising a series of events and activities to help me get there.
“I am both excited by the challenge but also a little scared as I may be facing bears and wolves as well as some tough trekking days in some really wild remote areas but I am up for the challenge.”
Mentor Link was founded in 2002 and is currently preparing to expand, in a bid to mentor more young people who may be facing difficult issues.
Mr Brown said: “It’s great that Andrea has taken up this challenge but this is just the start of many fundraising activities we plan to do, so watch this space.”
Mrs Maddocks’ first major sponsor is the Arley Kings Players who are currently rehearsing for their Christmas panto Ali Baba.
