PLANS for a major multi-million pound marina tourist attraction at Stourport’s riverside have been submitted.

An application for the £19 million Marina Quays, proposed for Nelson Road, Sandy Lane, is now in the hands of planners at Wyre Forest District Council.

Plans lodged by Stourbridge-based Clive Fletcher Developments would see 408 berths for boats, 106 one and two-bed holiday apartments, a clubhouse including restaurant, bar, gym, boat sales and boat hire facilities, accommodation and car parking built on the 73,000 sq m site between Sandy Lane industrial estate and the River Severn.

A planning statement written on behalf of the applicants said plans “look to support the local tourism industry through improving the quality and diversity of tourist facilities in the area”.

It added: “Stourport is an extremely popular location for boaters and there is a significant demand for both visitor and permanent moorings in the area.”

When The Shuttle revealed the plans in November last year, Thomas Vale Construction, which is working on the project, said the scheme offered “land-based leisure development alongside commercial space, ensuring the marina remained financially viable in the long term”.

Relevant parties and authorities will now be consulted on proposals until Thursday, November 21, before plans go before the council’s planning committee at a later date for a decision.
