A YOUNG hairdresser from Kidderminster hopes to be a cut above after realising his dream of opening his own salon.

Thomas Samson, 23, was joined by Mayor John Campion to cut the tape at his self-titled George Street-based unisex hair salon.

Mr Samson said he had saved about £5,000 or £6,000 on refurbishing the shop using a grant from Wyre Forest District Council and since opening earlier this month had received a positive response from locals.

“I have always wanted to do hairdressing and I started as an apprentice six years ago,” he said. “I have done various courses in hair and I got into the top five in the UK for men’s image of the year at the Clynol awards.

“I have got quite a good clientele, a good reputation and I love to have a challenge.”

He added: “Without the help from the council, I would not have been able to do the shop up to the standard I have done without it.”

Mr Campion said: “It is fantastic to see another new business open in Kidderminster. It is a great place to do business and I wish Thomas all the best in his new shop.”
