A BEWDLEY golf club has swung into action after opening its new golf range following a six-figure investment.

The £250,000 floodlit and covered range, located on a five-acre site next to the first hole at Wharton Park Golf Club’s championship course, features oversized bays and specially sprung mats.

It also includes a teaching academy, which will be headed up by the club’s PGA Advanced Golf professional, Angus Hoare.

Alongside fellow PGApProfessional, Tom Warbrick, Mr Hoare will also be holding one-to-one and group sessions, which will include interactive lessons for children and people with disabilities or learning difficulties.

Allan Umbers, club owner, said: “We are thrilled that the new driving range is open and we’re already receiving some great feedback.

"The next phase will see us installing a new short-game area with a practice green, bunkers and an innovative teaching area for beginners, which will be located next to the range. We hope to have these facilities completed by early next year.”

He added: “We are eager to attract more people to take up the game of golf, especially women and children.”

The opening of the range marks another substantial investment from the Umbers family, who this year celebrated their fourth year of ownership by completing a £1 million refurbishment of Wharton Park’s clubhouse.
