Broadwaters market goes with a bang
6:10am Wednesday 11th December 2013 in News
THE annual Broadwaters Christmas Market brought festive spirit to Kidderminster with carol singing and fireworks.
Crowds flocked to Broadwaters on Saturday to enjoy the festivities, organised by the Friends of Broadwaters and the KD11 Scout group.
Despite the fireworks display being a huge success, organisers have warned that they will need help with funding to hold a display next year.
Jane Abraham, who is in charge of fundraising for the Friends, said: "I want to say a huge thank you to everybody that supported us. It was an amazing market and amazing fireworks.
"It is very difficult to get the funding for the fireworks and we will need some help. We do fundraising at our Christmas market and our plant sale in May but the money we make from those we put back into the park.
"That big firework display is a big thank you to those who help and support us but we cannot get that money without a big campaign. It costs £2,000 to put it on so if 200 people gave us £10 we could do it again."
Entertainment was provided at the market by Someone at the Door Samba Band, fire juggling by Andrew Healey and carol singing by St George's Choir conducted by choirmaster Tim Morris.
There were also stalls held by other friends groups and local organisations.
Organiser Colin Hill said: "There was a great community spirit and it was a magnificent way to start the Christmas season."
The firework display also attracted praise on The Kidderminster Shuttle's facebook page with Simon West commenting: "Great fireworks in Broadwaters tonight. A real credit to all concerned. Thank you. "
