A CAMPAIGN to tidy up Wyre Forest district has seen improvements made to previously neglected areas, councillors say.

Members of staff from Wyre Forest District Council's parks and open spaces team have been targetting previously unattended areas. They have been cutting back overgrown vegetation, clearing leaves and detritus and giving areas a general good clean up.

Conservative councillor Ian Hardiman, cabinet member for community well-being, said: "The work currently underway by the newly structured parks and open spaces team is showing new systems of working. This allows them to show their initiative and target issues as quickly and efficiently as possible."

The team working to clear neglected areas has not just be focussing on district council-owned land, they have also been clearing land owned by Worcestershire County Council to improve the look of Wyre Forest.

Adam Stockhall, parks and open spaces supervisor, said: "Issues such as fly posting, fly tipping and clearing of weeds have all been targeted by the teams as they deliver their routine works throughout the district.

"All teams now look at areas on the basis of pick up, clean up, fix or report it. Areas such as Bewdley Road in Stourport and Broad Street and Windsor Drive in Kidderminster have already been targeted. Hopefully the same approach will allow for the vast majority of issues such as this to be dealt with in a speedy manner in the future."
