RESIDENTS in Wyre Forest are being invited to remember victims of the Holocaust at a special service.

The event will take place at St Mary's and All Saints Church, Kidderminster, on Sunday at 11.40am, where guests will assemble at the Holocaust memorial stone.

It has been organised by Honorary Polish Consul for the West Midlands, Fran Oborski - who is also Wyre Forest District Council chairman.

The Holocaust pledge will be read by district council chief executive Ian Miller and prayers will be said by representatives of the Church of England, Methodist and Catholic faiths and by leaders of Wyre Forest's Polish and Jewish communities.

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier will speak at the event, which will also be attended by ex-service standards and students from King Charles I School, Kidderminster, who will lay a wreath of white flowers in memory of child victims of the Holocaust.

Mrs Oborski said: "We invite everyone who attends to bring a flower to lay at the memorial stone. We invite everyone from across the district to join us in this important and moving event."

Meanwhile, Hartlebury MP Sir Peter Luff has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust's book of commitment in the House of Commons. The book honours whose who died as well as the survivors.

Next Monday marks the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
