A SERVICE of remembrance will be held for Wyre Forest's first honorary alderman Elizabeth Mills.

The service, organised by Wyre Forest District Council and Stourport Town Council, will be held at St Bartholomew's Church in Areley Kings on Monday, February 17 at 11am and everyone is welcome to attend.

Mrs Mills, a former Mayor of Stourport, died aged 101 on Wednesday, January 1.

She was awarded an MBE for her services to the local community after spending 23 years on Wyre Forest District Council and 12 years on Worcestershire County Council.

The leading lady in Wyre Forest’s civic history worked tirelessly for a number of Wyre Forest organisations including Stourport Rotary Club and the Worcestershire Girl Guiding movement.

Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Fran Oborski, said: "We know that many individuals and groups would like the opportunity to celebrate the life of Mrs Elizabeth Mills.

"We are honoured to be part of the team that has organised this service so we can remember the life of such an extraordinary lady."
