A BT employee has helped to secure a £500 grant and a £500 sports kit and equipment voucher for the Kidderminster Carolians Rugby Football Club.

The money was part of BT’s employee recognition scheme, the BT People Awards, which acknowledges BT’s volunteering champions who offer large amounts of their time and skills to help others in their local communities.

Matthew Dalton, who works for BT’s network business Openreach, secured the cash award and equipment for the Kidderminster Carolians RFU mini and junior section, where he is manager and coach of the under 15s age group, assisted by Openreach colleague, Mark Hudson.

Mr Dalton said: “It’s been fantastic to receive an award which recognises the effort and time invested by both Mark and myself outside work. I was delighted to see how generous the award was.

"It will allow us to replace tired equipment that will be visible and available for all age groups within the club.”

Mike Cook, BT’s regional director for the West Midlands, said: “Many BT people throughout our region volunteer their time, expertise and enthusiasm to support their local community.

"The BT People Awards are a great recognition of this commitment and a chance for BT to support local organisations, groups, clubs and charities with what are often badly needed funds.”

One hundred and seventy three applications were received from BT people worldwide, with 22 applicants receiving awards with a further 35 sports awards given to clubs as winners of the BT Supporters Club category.
