FLOOD warnings remain in place in Bewdley, where the town’s bridge has been closed.

Roads have been closed and bus services disrupted across Wyre Forest as rain and wind continued to batter the district over night.

The Environment Agency put up flood barriers along the River Severn at Bewdley on both sides, including at Beales Corner.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service assisted the agency this morning to pump overspill water on Stourport Road back into the river.

EA spokesman Dave Throup said the river at Bewdley was at its peak this morning but warned more rises were expected later in the week.

Bewdley’s police safer neighbourhood team tweeted: “Bridge closed due to dangerous rising water levels! Take care when driving near to rivers/brookes/fords and plan alternative routes.”

A mesasge on the Environment Agency website warned: “The following roads could be affected by flooding - The B4195 Stourport Road at Ricketts Place, Bewdley. The B4194 at Ribsford near Bewdley.

“The B456 and access to Bewdley Bridge. The road to Lickhill Manor and Riverside North, Bewdley.”

Worcestershire County Council added Lincomb Lane in Stourport was also closed due to a fallen tree.

The following Wyre Forest bus services have also been affected by the flooding:

2 / 2A / 2C (Bewdley - Kidderminster) : Due to the closure of Bewdley Bridge due to flooding, these services will operate from Kidderminster to Wribbenhall as normal, then divert via Stourport Rd and Bewdley Bypass to access the Town Centre and turn here. These services will therefore operate with significant delays.

15 (Kidderminster – Stourport – Bewdley) : This service is operating as normal from Kidderminster as far as the Severn Valley Station in Bewdley, then turning around and diverting via Bewdley Bypass to access the Town Centre.

125 (Stourbridge - Kidderminster - Bewdley - Highley – Bridgnorth) : Due to the closure of Bewdley Bridge due to flooding, this service will operate from Kidderminster to the Safari Park as normal, then divert via Stourport Road and Bewdley Bypass to access the Town Centre. It will then continue operating its normal route towards Bridgnorth.

291 (Tenbury – Bewdley – Kidderminster) : Due to the closure of Bewdley Bridge due to flooding, this service will operate from Kidderminster to the Safari Park as normal, then divert via Stourport Road and Bewdley Bypass to access the Town Centre. It will then turn around and continue operating its normal route towards Tenbury.

292 (Kidderminster – Bewdley – Ludlow) : Due to the closure of Bewdley Bridge due to flooding, this service will operate from Kidderminster to the Safari Park as normal, then divert via Stourport Road and Bewdley Bypass to access the Town Centre. It will then turn around and continue operating its normal route towards Ludlow.
