A GROUP has been formed in Bewdley to oversee local commemorations of the First World War.

The group has representatives from 12 organisations in the town, including the Friends of Bewdley Museum, the town council, the Royal British Legion and the Civic Society.

Penny Griffiths, chairman of the museum’s friends group, has also been elected chairman of the steering group after helping to plan a Bewdley Remembers exhibition.

Other projects are also in the pipeline to commemorate the centenary over the next five years .

Mrs Griffiths said: “The First World War lasted for almost four and a half years and so the commemorations will be spread out for an equivalent period of time .

“If anyone has any photogr aphs, literature or other potential exhibits of Bewdley during 1914, please do get in touch”.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the commemorations, either by volunteering or providing exhibits, should email julian.phillips@wyre-forestdc .gov.uk
