A DEDICATED fan club has been created on twitter for a tireless relief worker, who has been hailed a "hero" for helping residents battle the floods.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, was dubbed "super Dave" on twitter account @DaveThroupFans, which has amassed 1,090 followers since being launched on Tuesday by a Ross-on-Wye-based councillor.

The site says: "The official Dave Throup fan club.The man is a legend and a hero to residents of Herefordshire and Worcestershire."

Mr Throup has acquired the following from residents, politicans and journalists for updating people about the state of flooding throughout the two counties including at the River Severn in Bewdley.

His uploaded pictures and information have let people know how high the river is likely to get, which roads will close and advised on what action should be taken.

On twitter, ‏@mitch_rowley wrote: "Great to see @DaveThroupEA getting a mention for hard work through this event."

Conservative councillor Adrian Hardman, Worcetsershire County Council leader, tweeted: "The thing I don't understand is how he is everywhere in the two counties at once. Superman?"

Richard AsgharSandys added: "Think this is an excellent idea, Mr Throup deserves some honouring for all he's doing!"

Responding to a user asking him how he felt about the fan club, Mr Throup said: "Slightly embarrassed but very proud! I'm just doing my job and a lot of people are suffering."
