A FORMER garage in Stourport town centre will be demolished and replaced with a temporary car park despite objections from the Highways Agency.
The majority of councillors at Wyre Forest District Councilβs planning committee approved plans to flatten the former Lloyds Garage site on Bridge Street and put in a temporary car park.
Many committee members voted to refuse the application. Councillor Cliff Brewer said: βIt is ridiculous to put a car park in that situation. I appreciate the site is run down and it needs putting right but it would be nice if we had a street market there that would create footfall, not more cars.β
Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, however, hit out at opposing councillors, saying it would support business.
