A CHARITY evening held by a Kidderminster supermarket saw 15 good causes benefit from a total of £1,150.

Sainsbury's donated the monetary gifts to charities nominated by employees at the store.

The top donation of £200 was received by Brake, a road safety charity, after a member of staff was killed in a car accident in 2012.

A further £150 was donated to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in memory of Vickie Harvey, the 24-year-old daughter of Sainsbury's employee Eric Harvey and £100 was given to Kemp Hospice.

Twelve further charities including KD15 Scouts, Wyre Forest Women’s Aid, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Cords 4 Life, the MS Society, Crackerjacks Children’s Trust, Severn Area Rescue Association, Newbridge Cat Rescue, Age UK, County Air Ambulance, St John’s Ambulance and Forest Dog Rescue each received £50.

Samantha Buckley, spokeswoman for Sainsbury's Kidderminster, said: "We are thrilled to be able to help so many local good causes. Thank you to the charities who attended, and also to Mayor of Kidderminster John Campion for supporting our event."

An extra £100 was up for grabs on the night in a raffle, which was given to the Severn Area Rescue Association.

Paul Enright, a driving instructor and representative of the Brake charity, said “The charity promotes road safety, particularly among the young.

"The money donated by Sainsbury’s will be put to good use in educating the importance of road safety”.
