A PLANNING application to build a museum on the site of Drakelow Tunnels has been put on hold while documents are collected.

A Wyre Forest District Council spokeswoman said the original application for the former Second World War aero engine factory in Wolverley was invalid due to incorrect documents being submitted regarding the ownership of the site.

She added: "It's on hold until we get the correct documentation."

The proposals, submitted by Swiss owners Quercus Ilex SA, with the help of an unnamed group working to restore the tunnels, are for a museum, gift shop and coffee shop to help with tourism and preservation of the site.

The volunteers have been busy clearing up and restoring the tunnels by holding regular working parties.

Over the last couple of months, they have been removing rubble from office space, clearing the BBC, BT and computer services rooms and working to repair lighting and electrics.
