WYRE Forest's MP has welcomed improved unemployment figures in Wyre Forest ahead of his next planned jobs fair for the district.

Statistics released by the Office for National Statistics showed the number of unemployed claimants in Wyre Forest in January was 1,805, which was 475 lower than in January, 2013, representing a 21 per cent drop in unemployment, year on year.

Conservative Mark Garnier said: “We all welcome the overall national job figures announced and the year-on-year reduction of 21 per cent is extremely encouraging for Wyre Forest.

"The annual seasonal factors are still present, as we have seen a small increase of 65 people claiming JSA from the December, 2013 unemployment rate.

"To assist people who are seeking work or training to improve their employment opportunities, the next jobs fair I am putting on is on Friday, March 14, 2pm to 5pm at Kidderminster Town Hall.”
