VEHICLE owners are being reminded about security after police found more than 20 unlocked in Kidderminster.
Eight police officers and police community support officers carried out a vulnerable vehicle check on Wednesday, February 19.
About 200 vehicles were checked, 22 of which were found to be unlocked, and some of them had items such as sat navs, MP3 players, power tools and handbags left on display.
Vehicle owners were spoken to and came out to secure their vehicles.
PC Phil Green of the Kidderminster East Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Many of the previously reported thefts from motor vehicles have been due to insecure vehicles and we believe offenders are simply trying car doors.
“Following the rules of removing items of value and locking car doors, even when only leaving the vehicle unattended for a few moments, will reduce chances of falling prey to this type of crime.
“We are also urging members of the public to be vigilant and if they see anyone going from drive to drive and trying cars doors then to call the police immediately on 999 as reporting it as it happens gives us the best chance of arresting the offenders.”
