A SECURITY guard has been taken to hospital with suspected serious head injuries after an incident at a Kidderminster store today.

The incident happened at Marks and Spencer in Weavers Wharf at about 11am.

The security guard was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with what are believed to be serious head injuries.

A man was arrested nearby shortly afterwards. No-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell of West Mercia Police said: “This inquiry is at a very early stage and we are trying to ascertain what happened.

“The incident took place in a busy shopping environment and we are aware there were a number of people in the vicinity, some of whom may not have realised the significance of what they saw.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who saw anything in the store or car park who haven’t already spoken to police to contact Kidderminster CID on the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident 18-s-270214.”
